WIESBADEN – In August 2020, the construction price index for conventionally constructed new residential buildings (construction work performed at the building; including turnover tax) in Germany was stagnating compared with August 2019, especially because of the lowered turnover tax. In May 2020, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the price index increased by 3.0% on a year earlier. Compared with May 2020, the price index for residential buildings went down by 2.2% in August 2020.
As far as non-residential buildings were concerned, the price index for office buildings was up 0.1% in August 2020 compared with August 2019. The price index for industrial buildings stagnated. The price index relating to road construction went down by 0.9% compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year.
