Press Pharmacies in times of corona: turnover up 3.8% in August 2020 compared with the previous month

  • Turnover of pharmacies in the period from January to August 2020 up 3.0% in real terms on a year earlier
  • Record turnover in March 2020: real turnover up 18.5% on March 2019
  • Roughly 82% of the 250,000 persons employed in pharmacies were women in 2018

WIESBADEN - Whether medicines, anti-flu remedies or cosmetic products - pharmacies are a central component of out-patient health care for the population. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the turnover of pharmacies in August 2020 was up 3.8% in price, calendar and seasonally adjusted terms compared with the previous month. Turnover was also higher than before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Compared with the pre-crisis month of February 2020, the price, calendar and seasonally adjusted increase in August amounted to 1.7%.
