Ad-hoc evaluation of mobile phone data shows decline in the population’s mobility since the beginning of restrictions on 2 November 2020

WIESBADEN - In the week when the new restrictions aimed at containing the coronavirus pandemic took effect in Germany, average mobility fell by 4.7% in towns and districts as a whole, compared with the previous week. An ad-hoc evaluation of experimental data by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows that mobility in Week 45 (2 to 8 November) was below the previous year’s level throughout the week for the first time since June 2020.
