Press Desired hours of work in 2019: just under 2.1 million persons in employment wanted to work more, 1.5 million less

Full-time employees worked an average of 41.3 hours per week, part-time employees 20.2 hours

WIESBADEN – In 2019, just under 2.1 million persons in employment who were aged 15 to 74 years wanted to work more hours (underemployed), while nearly 1.5 million wanted to work less (overemployed). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that underemployed people worked an average of 29.3 hours per week and wanted to work an average of 10.3 hours more. Overemployed people worked an average of 41.5 hours per week and wanted to work 10.7 hours less.
