WIESBADEN – Since the “lockdown light“ has come into force on 2 November 2020, people in Germany are spending even more time in private homes than before. Those living alone are affected most by contact restrictions applying outside of their homes. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that almost half of the individuals in one-person households (42%) lived in large cities with 100,000 inhabitants and over in 2019. Nearly one in three people living alone (32%) were residents of small municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. One out of four individuals (26%) in one-person households lived in municipalities with 20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants.
