WIESBADEN – The service sector in Germany recovered slightly in the third quarter of 2020, after it had been hit particularly strongly by the corona pandemic in the second quarter. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that turnover in selected service branches in the third quarter of 2020 was up a calendar and seasonally adjusted 3.7% on the previous quarter. Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, however, the adjusted turnover fell by 9.9%. Although the seasonally adjusted number of persons employed in selected service branches was up 0.3% on the previous quarter, it was still 2.4% below the level of the same quarter of the previous year.
