WIESBADEN – In the third quarter of 2020, a total of 116.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced and fed into the grid in Germany. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that was 2.9% less than in the third quarter of 2019. In contrast to the first two quarters of 2020, when the majority of electricity came from renewable energy sources (first quarter: 51.2%; second quarter: 52.5%), 56% of electricity came from conventional energy sources in the third quarter. Compared with the same quarter a year earlier, however, electricity feed-in from conventional energy sources was down 5.8%, whereas feed-in from renewable energy sources rose 1.1%.
