Press Births in 2020: until September 6,155 babies less compared with 2019

• Number of births slightly down in the first three quarters of 2020
• Fertility rate has declined slightly among German and considerably among foreign women since 2016

WIESBADEN – The decline in births recorded in 2019 continued during the first three quarters of 2020. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly 580,342 babies were born in Germany between January and September 2020. This was a decline of 6,155, or about 1%, compared with the same period a year earlier. Whether the
