WIESBADEN – Due to the coronavirus pandemic, cultural institutions in Germany are currently affected by restrictions and closure. It is not clear yet how many of the roughly 1.3 million persons in employment in cultural occupations (2018) and of the 29,000 apprentices in culture-specific occupations will be affected by job and financial losses in the continuing pandemic situation. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the proportion of persons in employment in cultural occupations of the total labour force was 3.1% in 2018. About half of them (50.3%) were women. These are some of the results contained in the new publication “Kulturindikatoren auf einen Blick - Ein Ländervergleich” of the statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder.
