• Downward trend observed for 20 years: in 2000, 93.1% of all new buildings had oil or gas heating
• Heating oil and natural gas will be more expensive as of 1 January 2021: three quarters of the households used these fossil energy sources for heating in 2018

WIESBADEN – The CO2 charge of 25 euros per tonne of carbon dioxide emitted will become effective on 1 January 2021. The purpose is to reduce the use of fossil energy sources for mobility and heating of buildings. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 42.8% of the total 108,100 new buildings were equipped with oil or gas heating last year. Twenty years ago, the proportion of new buildings heated mainly by oil or gas was 93.1%.
