WIESBADEN – The expenditure of the overall public budget rose by 11.6% to 1,231.5 billion euros in the first three quarters of 2020 compared with the same period of 2019. At the same time, revenue decreased by 4.3% to 1,074.4 billion euros. These are provisional results of the core and extra budgets of the quarterly cash statistics. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the comparatively large increase in public expenditure combined with the decline in revenue resulted in a cash deficit, as defined in public finance statistics, of 157.1 billion euros in the period from January up to and including September 2020.
