- Turnover of travel providers down 91% between April and June 2020 compared with a year earlier

WIESBADEN – Continued travel restrictions to tackle the coronavirus pandemic have adversely affected the travel industry. Its turnover declined substantially last year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the turnover of travel agencies, tour operators and reservation service providers was down by 61% in calendar and seasonally adjusted terms from January to September 2020 compared with the same period a year earlier. The slump in turnover was particularly severe in the second quarter of last year which saw a major part of the first corona-related lockdown. Turnover in the travel industry declined by 91% between April and June 2020 compared with the same period of the preceding year. The decline slowed somewhat down in the third quarter. From July to September 2020, the turnover of travel providers was 75% lower than in the same period a year earlier.
