Press Production of ventilators up 33% in the first three quarters of 2020 compared with the previous year's level

WIESBADEN – The spread of COVID-19, the infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs, has boosted demand for medical devices in the field of ventilation and oxygen therapy. In Germany, the production of equipment and devices for oxygen therapy and ventilation increased by a third (33.4%) to 426 million pieces in the first three quarters of 2020 compared with the same quarters of the previous year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the production value rose by roughly 60% to 900.6 million euros in the same period. The equipment for oxygen therapy and ventilation includes devices for invasive and non-invasive ventilation such as ventilator units, oxygen masks and bag valve masks.
