Press release No. 066 of 15 February 2021
- In 2019 the number of people affected was half a high as 10 years earlier

- People living alone and households of lone parents accounted for an above-average proportion of those not being able to heat their home adequately
WIESBADEN - Germany is being gripped by a sub-zero wave of cold weather. However, it cannot be taken for granted that all people have a sufficiently heated home. In 2019, roughly 2 million people in Germany lived in households which could not sufficiently heat their dwelling or house for financial reasons. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, based on results of the EU-SILC (LEBEN IN EUROPA) household survey, this concerned 2.5% of the population. However, this proportion has declined. It still was more than twice as high (5.5% or 4.5 million people) in 2009.
