Press Foreign trade in 2020: exports to China recovered quickly

Exports to the United States much more affected by the corona crisis than exports to China

Press release No. 097 of 3 March 2021

WIESBADEN – In 2020, German exports went mainly to the United States and the People’s Republic of China. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany exported goods to the value of 103.8 billion euros to the United States and of 95.9 billion euros to China (see also press release no. 077 of 22 February 2021). However, the corona crisis has affected the exports to the two countries to a different extent. In 2020 exports to China almost remained at the previous year’s level (-0.1%), while exports to the United States declined significantly (-12.5%).
