WIESBADEN - The future of office properties is uncertain in times when home offices are used more frequently. However, the number of office and administrative buildings and the related useful floor area went up before the coronavirus pandemic broke out. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that in 2019 roughly 1,800 buildings of that kind were completed in all of Germany, which was the highest number in ten years and an increase by 4% compared with 2009. During the same period, the useful floor area of office properties completed went up as well, by 8% to 2.9 million square metres recently. The resulting average useful floor area per office building was 1,620 square metres.
