WIESBADEN – In the first quarter of 2021, just over 34,000 businesses were started in Germany whose legal form and number of employees suggest that they have greater economic importance. Based on an evaluation of business notifications, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this is 5.9% more than in the first quarter of 2020, when the coronavirus crisis had already had a negative impact on the number of business registrations, and 2.2% less than in the first quarter of 2019.
