Press release No. 296 of 24 June 2021
WIESBADEN – Well over two thirds (68.8%) of the residential buildings newly constructed in Germany in 2020 are wholly or partly heated by energy from renewable sources. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this proportion again increased slightly compared with 2019 (67.2%). In 2015, it stood at 61.5%. 2020 was the first year in which renewable energies were the primary energy source (i.e. the main source of energy used for heating) in more than half (50.5%) of the total of 112,935 new residential buildings (2015: 38.0%).
