Press release No. 311 of 30 June 2021
WIESBADEN – German fruit growers expect cherry yields to be markedly lower this summer than in 2020. Based on a first estimate as at 10 June 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that fruit growers expect a total harvested quantity of 45,800 tonnes of sweet and sour cherries. This is a decrease of 8.4% on the previous year and 4.4% compared with the ten-year average of the period from 2011 to 2020. Late frosts, hailstorms and heavy rainfalls in spring 2021 caused yield losses in many places.
