WIESBADEN – In May 2021, a total of 221 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is an expected decline of 12 people compared with May 2020. The number of road traffic accident fatalities in May 2021 was the lowest ever recorded in a month of May since German reunification. The number of people seriously injured declined by 12% to 4,700 in May 2021 compared with the same month a year earlier, while the number of persons slightly injured was down 8% to 20,000.
