WIESBADEN – In 2020, 639,000 people received training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in Germany. That was a decline of 41,000 people, or 6.0%, compared with a year earlier. At the same time, the expenditure on BAföG benefits increased by 9.2% to roughly 2.9 billion euros. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, on average, the recipients of training assistance received 556 euros per month in 2020. Thus the average amount was 53 euros, or 10.5%, higher than a year earlier.
