- Start-ups of larger businesses up 2.5% compared with the pre-crisis level of the first half of 2019
- Number of small business start-ups 1.0% below the value a year earlier and 21.9% below the 2019 level
- Complete business shutdowns declined by 1.0% on the first half of 2020 and by 18.3% on the pre-crisis level
WIESBADEN - In the first half of 2021, just over 65,600 businesses were started in Germany whose legal form and number of employees suggest that they have greater economic importance. Based on an evaluation of business notifications, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was 13.1% more than in the first six months of 2020, which were affected by the coronavirus crisis, but also 2.5% more than in the first half of 2019.
