Electricity produced from wind declined by 21% due to still days in spring

WIESBADEN – The major part of electricity produced and fed into the grid in Germany in the first half of 2021 came from conventional energy sources. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the production of electricity from conventional energy sources increased by 20.9% compared with the first half of 2020. It accounted for 56.0% of total electricity production. Owing to the still days in spring, the main energy source was coal. In the first half of 2020, it had been wind power. According to provisional results, a total of 258.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were generated in the first half of 2021. That was an increase of 10.0 billion kilowatt hours, or 4.0%, compared with the first six months of 2020 .
