Press Grape harvest 2021 at around the previous year's level

Press release No. 435 of 15 September 2021

• 8.8 million hectolitres of wine expected for the 2021 vintage
• Significant increases in the wine growing regions of Franken, Mittelrhein and Württemberg, decreases in the Mosel, Baden and Nahe regions
• Riesling yield expected to be down by 1.7% year on year

WIESBADEN – Winegrowers in Germany expect the 2021 grape harvest to be slightly better than in 2020. Based on first estimates, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a quantity of 8.76 million hectolitres of grape must is predicted, which is 3.0% more than in the previous year. The 2020 vintage reached 8.51 million hectolitres. This means that the 2021 yield will not differ materially from the 2015 to 2020 average (8.78 million hectolitres). In some regions, however, winegrowers expect significant growth. Due to the flood disaster in the Ahr valley, the data for that wine growing region are still insufficient.
