Press release No. 437 of 16 September 2021
WIESBADEN – For the job, studies or holidays: an international comparison of price levels for private consumption expenditure helps in planning your budget for staying abroad. In this context, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) now publishes monthly updates of price levels for 36 European countries on its website. The figures show that the cost of living in July 2021 was highest in Switzerland. The price level there was higher than in Germany by more than half (+51%). By contrast, the cost of living in Turkey was by just under two thirds (-64%) lower than in Germany and thus was the lowest among all countries included in the comparison.
