WIESBADEN – The expenditure of the overall public budget rose by 10.8% to 883.2 billion euros the first half of 2021 compared with the first six months of 2020, while revenue increased by 6.0% to 752.1 billion euros. These are provisional results of the core and extra budgets of the quarterly cash statistics. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a cash deficit - as defined in public finance statistics - of 131.1 billion euros in the first half of 2021. In the first half of 2020 the financial deficit amounted to 88.0 billion euros, while a financial surplus of 10.9 billion euros had still been recorded in the first half of 2019.
