Press July 2021: business insolvencies down 12.3% on July 2020

  • Number of requests for normal insolvency proceedings in September 2021 up 6.0% on the previous month, according to provisional figures
  • Consumer insolvencies increased by over 50% in July 2021 year on year

WIESBADEN – German local courts reported 1,200 business insolvency requests in July 2021. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) that was a decline of 12.3% compared with July 2020. The last months’ downward trend in business insolvencies continued also when many special regulations no longer applied, such as the suspension of the obligation for overindebted businesses to file for insolvency, which had been introduced on account of the Covid-19 pandemic. Compared with July 2019, before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany, the number of business insolvencies was down by 27.0% in July 2021.
