WIESBADEN – Producer prices of agricultural products were 13.3% higher in August 2021 than in August 2020. The prices were up by 1.2% on July 2021. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the strong 23.4% increase in the prices of plant products in August 2021 compared with August 2020 was mainly due to higher grain prices, as in the last few months. These were 34.4% higher in August 2021 than a year earlier, which was the largest increase since January 2013. In July 2021, the prices had already changed by as much as +21.2%. The increases in grain prices were due to the partly low yields in Germany and to the reduced yields forecast worldwide.
