WIESBADEN – In 2021, just under 1,540 agricultural holdings have cultivated tree nursery areas of 17,160 hectares in Germany. Compared with the latest survey of 2017, the overall area cultivated decreased by 7.8% and the number of tree nurseries by 10.4%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the average area cultivated by a tree nursery remained unchanged at roughly 11 hectares. 98.2% of the area under tree nurseries is outdoor and 1.8% in greenhouses or under high protective cover.
