- 4% of all deaths in 2020 are directly due to COVID-19
- Cardiovascular diseases still most frequent cause of death (34%)
WIESBADEN – A total of 985,572 people died in Germany in 2020 according to final results of causes of death statistics, of whom 492,797 were men and 492,775 women. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of deaths rose by 4.9% compared with the previous year. The increase is also due to COVID-19 related deaths.
