- Due to the coronavirus pandemic households spent less for consumption in 2020 than a year earlier
- Expenditure declined especially regarding restaurant visits, overnight stays, education, and recreation activities
- An increase was recorded in expenditure on interior decoration, food and housing
WIESBADEN - The coronavirus pandemic has markedly affected the final consumption expenditure of households in Germany. In 2020, the monthly consumption expenditure (average of 2,507 euros) was down by 3% year on year. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) based on the continuous household budget surveys. However, households spent more on certain products and services, such as computers, bicycles, interior decoration, food and housing compared with the previous year.
