- Basic area for flowers and ornamental plants down 4.9% on 2017 in Germany
Nordrhein-Westfalen has largest basic area, followed by Niedersachsen and Bayern
WIESBADEN – In 2021, there are roughly 3,120 holdings specialising in ornamental plants in Germany, which cultivate flowers and ornamental plants on a basic area totalling 6,260 hectares. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of ornamental plant producers declined by 14.9% compared with the last survey of ornamental plants in 2017. The basic area for cultivation was down by 4.9%. More than one quarter (26.4%, 1,650 hectares) of the basic area is under greenhouses or other high accessible protective cover.
