WIESBADEN - According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the real (price-adjusted) turnover of all wholesale enterprises in Germany was 1.9% higher and the nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 11.5% higher in the 3rd quarter of 2021 compared with the same quarter of 2020. The large difference between the real and nominal increase was particularly due to the substantial increase in wholesale prices in the third quarter of 2021. This development has been noticeable since the second quarter of 2021. Compared with the 4th quarter of 2019, the quarter before the coronavirus pandemic broke out in Germany, turnover in the 3rd quarter of 2021 was up by 0.7% in real terms and by 8.8% on a nominal basis. In September 2021, the year-on-year increase in turnover was 1.2% in real terms and 11.6% in nominal terms.
