38% less electricity from natural gas due to high natural gas prices

WIESBADEN – The major part of electricity produced and fed into the grid in Germany in the third quarter of 2021 came again from conventional energy sources. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the production of electricity from conventional energy sources increased by 2.7% compared with the third quarter of 2020. It accounted for 56.9% of total electricity production. In the first half of 2021, the major part of electricity fed into the grid also came from conventional energy sources (56.0%), whereas 51.8% of the electricity in the first half of 2020 came from renewable energy sources. According to provisional results, total electricity fed into the grid in the third quarter of 2021 increased by 1.1% compared with the third quarter of 2020.
