WIESBADEN – In 2020, technical or regulatory defects were found with just under a third (30.9%) of the 248,070 installations for handling water-hazardous substances inspected in all of Germany. Included were petrol filling stations, storage facilities, filling facilities and heating oil use systems, among others. The safety of installations came into focus this summer when a large explosion occurred in a disposal facility located in Leverkusen. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that slight defects were found with 53,658 installations (21.6%), 22,978 installations had significant defects (9.3%) and 66 installations (0.03%) even dangerous defects.
