WIESBADEN – In 2020, the courts in Germany convicted approximately 699,300 defendants by final judgment. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decrease of roughly 29,600 defendants convicted, or 4.1%, compared with the previous year. The criminal proceedings against another roughly 153,300 people ended with court decisions other than convictions (for example, acquittal or dismissal of proceedings) in 2020.
