Press release No. 034 of 26 January 2022
WIESBADEN – Modernising and extending registers, using the opportunities offered by digitalisation and creating a reliable legal basis for that – those are the key items of the Statistical Advisory Committee's recommendations for the 20th legislative term. The Statistical Advisory Committee is the body made up of users, respondents and producers of federal statistics.
“Like almost no other phenomenon in the past, the coronavirus pandemic has shown the demand for up-to-date and trustworthy information that is relevant for policy-making. At the same time, it has revealed what data are missing and where data linkage requires optimisation,” said Prof. Dr. Thomas K. Bauer, Vice-President of the RWI-Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen and chairman of the Statistical Advisory Committee. “The statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder need a clear legal framework for this in order to use new digital data sources, for example.”
