WIESBADEN – A total of 471,600 new entrants enrolled at institutions of higher education in Germany in the academic year 2021 (summer semester 2021 and winter semester 2021/2022). Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decline of 18,600, or 4%, compared with the academic year 2020 and 7% less than in 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic (508,700).
