WIESBADEN – 78 kilograms of packaging waste per capita were collected from households in Germany in the Covid year of 2020. That was an average increase of 6 kilograms per person on 2019. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the total amount of packaging waste, which is collected mainly in the yellow bin, in glass or paper containers separately from residual waste, increased by almost 0.6 million tonnes, or 9.3%, to 6.5 million tonnes in 2020.
