Press release No. 115 of 16 March 2022
WIESBADEN – In 2021, 228,000 young people started a qualifying programme of the transition sector between school and apprenticeship in Germany. The aim is to acquire basic vocational knowledge or to obtain a secondary general or intermediate school certificate through these programmes in order to improve the chances of securing an apprenticeship. Based on provisional results from integrated reporting on education and training, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of new participants in transition sector programmes decreased by 2.8% on 2020. This means that the declining trend continued. In 2005, there were approximately 418,000 new participants in transition sector programmes, and their number has fallen steadily since then, except for the year 2016.
