- Traffic accident fatalities down by 56 on January 2020
- People injured up 36% on January 2021, but down 19% on January 2020
WIESBADEN – In January 2022, 149 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany, according to provisional results. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was 12 fatalities more than in January 2021. The number of people injured was markedly up by 36%, or roughly 5,600, to 21,000 in January 2022 year on year. However, due to the lockdown measures applicable in January 2021, the development of accidents in that month was more strongly characterised by the Covid-19 pandemic than in January 2022.
