WIESBADEN – Roughly 1.9 million women and men in Germany received parental allowance in 2021. That was an increase of roughly 7,800, or 0.4%, compared with 2020. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of men who received parental allowance was up by 9,700 (+2.1%) on a year earlier. The number of women receiving parental allowance decreased slightly by 1,900 (-0.1%). As a result, the proportion of fathers increased to 25.3% in 2021 (2020: 24.8%). This means that the proportion of fathers continued to increase. In 2015, it stood at 20.9%.
