WIESBADEN – The current sanctions against Russia are expected to affect Germany’s maritime transport as well. The Russian Federation was the number one trading partner of German sea ports from January to November 2021 with approximately 24.1 million tonnes of goods, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Then followed Sweden (23.7 million tonnes), and the People's Republic of China (20.2 million tonnes). Background: A total of 265.3 million tonnes of goods were loaded and unloaded in German sea ports from January to November 2021. This was an increase of 5.2% compared with the same period of 2020, which was affected strongly by the Covid-19 pandemic.
