Press release No. 145 of 1 April 2022
- Demand for edible oil more than doubled in the week of 7 to 13 March from before the war in Ukraine, flour sales more than tripled
- Sales slightly down in the week of 14 to 20 March but still on a very high level - no signs of widespread supply shortages
WIESBADEN – As there has been a high demand for edible oil and flour since Russia started its attack on Ukraine on 24 February 2022, many retailers have limited the number of items when selling such products. An ad hoc evaluation of experimental data by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows the strongly rising sales figures of flour and edible oil from Week 8 (21 to 27 February 2022). The demand for edible oil, for instance, more than doubled (+123%) in Week 10 (7 to 13 March 2022) from nearly six months ago in September 2021. The demand for flour tripled (+206%) over the same period.
