- Three quarters (74.6%) of goods transport performance was provided by road transport in 2020 – 1.1 percentage points more than in 2019
- Market share of rail transport decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 18.3% compared with 2019
- Inland water transport accounted for 7.1% of transport performance in 2020
WIESBADEN – In 2020, a year characterised by the Covid-19 pandemic, the goods transport performance of the three transport modes of truck, rail and inland waterways fell by 3.7% to 653.5 billion tonne kilometres compared with 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the transport modes of rail (18.3%) and inland waterway vessel (7.1%) accounted for roughly one quarter (25.4%) of the goods transport performance in 2020. Roughly three quarters of the goods transport performance (74.6%) was provided by trucks, that is, 487.4 billion tonne kilometres.
