Press Petrol and diesel fuel prices considerably lower in most neighbouring countries of Germany

  • Only in the Netherlands and Denmark was petrol more expensive than in Germany, compared with its neighbouring countries; diesel fuel cost the most in Germany
  • Petrol and diesel fuel prices remained at high levels after record highs in mid-March and at the beginning of April

WIESBADEN – Petrol and diesel fuel cost considerably more at German petrol stations recently than in most immediate neighbouring countries. Drivers in Germany paid 2.06 euros (daily average) for a litre of either E5 supergrade petrol or diesel fuel on 4 April 2022, as the Federal Statistical Office reports on the basis of data from the European Commission and the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels (MTU Fuels) of the Federal Cartel Office. Compared with Germany’s immediate neighbours, the price of one litre of supergrade petrol E5 (or Eurosuper 95) was higher that day only in the Netherlands (2.11 euros) and Denmark (2.09 euros), whereas diesel fuel cost less in the Netherlands (2.04 euros) and Denmark (1.93 euros) than in Germany.
