Press release No. 202 of 13 May 2022
WIESBADEN – Making official statistics fit for the future and promoting innovation – these were the topics of the 69th annual conference of the Statistical Advisory Committee held in Wiesbaden on 12 May 2022. “The Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, but also challenges such as intergenerational equity and climate change show an increasing demand for reliable and up-to-date data. Especially in times of crisis, people are confronted with a flood of data whose reliability is hard to verify”, said Prof. Dr. Thomas K. Bauer, chairman of the Statistical Advisory Committee and Vice-President of the RWI-Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. “This is why we should further strengthen the system of official statistics so that it is well positioned for the future.”
