The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that income from a business establishment was the main source of income for 15,500 (59%) of those taxpayers. Another 5,200 (20%) received their income mainly from dependent employment and 4,000 (15%) from self-employment. Other types of income play a minor role. As regards income from capital, it has no longer been possible to provide complete data since the final withholding tax was introduced in 2009.
