- Slightly more than 300,000 Germans living in Germany’s neighbouring country at the beginning of 2021
- Record high of naturalisations in 2020
WIESBADEN – Germans emigrating to another European country most often choose Switzerland as their destination. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly 309,000 German citizens were residing in this neighbouring country at the beginning of 2021. According to data of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), this number has been increasing for years. Compared with 2020, the increase was 2,100 persons or 0.7%.
