Press Abortions in the 1^st quarter of 2022 up 4.8% year on year

WIESBADEN – In the 1^st quarter of 2022, roughly 25,800 abortions were reported in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of abortions increased by 4.8% in the 1^st quarter of 2022 compared with the 1^st quarter of 2021. Previously, the number of abortions had declined since the 2^nd quarter of 2020. The total number of abortions in 2021 was down by 5.4% on the previous year; in 2020 it was 0.9% lower than in 2019. A clear assessment of whether and how this development is associated with the course of the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be made on the basis of the data available.
